Waitangi Day is the official national day of New Zealand. A day where we celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between representatives of the British crown and the various Rangatira of the north & south islands.

Waitangi Day Festival
When: 6th February 2021
Where: Lions Park Te Anau
A vibrant local celebration and a perfect opportunity to bring your whanau along for a summer vacation. Local musician, Jenny Mitchell will be playing in the park, as well as lots of other fun activities. Find out more about the festivities on the Te Anau Events Facebook Page.
Sandfly Café Te Anau Lake Swim
When: 6th Feb, 10am
Where: * Registration: Te Anau lake front by the Kepler Water Taxi (opposite Lions Park) at 9am
* Swim: Lake Te Anau – Brod Bay to the beach near the Kepler Water Taxi.
Cost: $30pp
Wetsuits are compulsory for this fun morning swim in lake Te Anau, from Brod Bay to the Kepler Water Taxi dock. Swimmers will be supported by kayakers and boats and all swimmers will be transported by boat to the starting point at Dock Bay. Join in for prize-giving at the end of the swim- what a way to start Waitangi day!

Cycling events in Fiordland over Waitangi weekend:
Milford Mountain Classic
When: 7th February 2021
Where: Official start is from the Deepwater Basin Exit nearly Milford Sound. Paid shuttles are also departing from Lions Park, Te Anau with alternative departure points yet to be decided
The Milford Mountain Classic is a bike challenge through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The route takes you through New Zealand’s only true Alpine Road and through what many consider to be the “The eighth wonder of the world”. Fiordland Lobster Eglinton Challenge
When: 7th February 2021
Where: Te-Anau – Milford Highway
The Eglinton Challenge is a competitive 65km road cycling race. Not for the faint of heart as your preparation, fitness & competitiveness WILL be tested by the tough but glorious track. Tickets for the event are limited so be sure to get in quick by signing up here
Ricoh Homer Hundred
When: 7th February 2021
Where: Te Anau-Milford Sound Hwy with the starting point on the Eastern Portal of the Homer Tunnel
The Homer Hundred, as the name suggests is a 100km road cycling endurance race. The first stage takes you through the historic homer tunnel before settling into gruelling 80km trip through the Fiordland National Park.
